Campbell Confusion It figured to be a quiet night for the Blue Jackets. They didn't have a first-round pick in tonight's NHL entry draft, having traded it to Philadelphia in the Jeff Carter deal on Thursday. They said all day that they were unlikely to trade back into the first round. Oh, but it wasn't a quiet day. Multiple reports say Chicago defenseman Brian Campbell waived his no-trade clause and was traded to the Florida Panthers late tonight. But multiple reports also say that Campbell was initially being sent to the Blue Jackets but declined to waive the no-trade. These aren't just any reports: Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos, who is one of the most connected guys in hockey, has reported it. The Blue Jackets, however, have vehemently denied it. GM Scott Howson denied it in a text message exchange to The Dispatch (he wasn't available for comment after the draft), and members of the Blue Jackets' public relations staff took to Twitter to shoot down the rumors. Here was their last missive: "Contrary to reports, CBJ had no talks with CHI re. Brian Campbell." Around 11:30 p.m., Chicago GM Stan Bowman declined to discuss Campbell's situation, saying he'd talk about it when the deal with Florida was completed. Messages left by The Dispatch for Campbell and his agent, Larry Kelly, were not immediately confirmed. Campbell is signed through the 2015-16 season at $7.14 million season.

12:10 p.m. The Detroit Red Wings, according to several reports, are out of the b idding for Jaromir Jagr, as well. That is two teams that have dropped out in the past 60 minutes. Philadelphia and Montreal are believed to be the front-runners now for Jagr's services. According to Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune, the Penguins became disenchanted because Jagr's people brought in additional teams at the last minute.
