Spezza (upper body) will likely be out of action for another week reports the Ottawa Sun. Recommendation: The center has either a groin or back injury and has missed Ottawa's last two games. There is no word yet on the severity of Spezza's injury, but lucky for Ottawa there are only two games this week. (Rotowire.com)
The team said Wednesday that Lehtonen had another surgery on Friday in Rochester, N.Y., to remove edges of bone that were applying pressure to nerve roots in his back at two locations.
Cam Ward is expected to be released from Hospital later today, after spending the night. Ward obtained a severe laceration to his left leg from the skate of Rick Nash in last nights game.
Ward received multiple stitches to the wound and is now in a stable condition after losing large amounts of blood.
The extent of damage caused by the injury is still unknown. Ward's status will be updated further, later today. The earliest of reports suggest that Ward will miss a substantial amount of time.
Carolina don't play again until Wednesday.
In Ward's absence, 23 year old rookie Justin Peters is expected to get the call-up. So far this season - For the AHL Albany River Rats, Peters has gone 5-4-1 with 0.925 Sv% and 2.19 GAA
Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford talked to the press earlier today about Cam Wards condition. "Cam Ward will stay in Hospital another day, we are looking at all options, including a trade or signing someone." Regarding Wards injury and recovery Rutherford said "We'll have to see how it goes. It appears it will be a fairly long period of time." For now at least, it looks like the Hurricanes will indeed recall Justin Peters from the AHL.
